Barrow preview 20/06/2001 Jim
Tonight's coming by Jim: Barrow predictions are here

Barrow won't fancy this one bit. They come to Spotland on the back of no little tumult. Coach Paul Charlton is batting out his career there in a dead rubber, already replaced for next term by ex-Carlisle head honcho Cameron Bell.

Currently languishing in an unimpressive 13th, the board at Craven Park will be hoping that Bell can ring sufficient change next term to improve the Furness club's situation.

The last couple of weeks have seen Barrow rack up a couple of huge scores - admittedly against York and Gateshead respectively - which hints at the fact that they aren't just a team of honest grafters.

In Darren Holt they have one of the NFP's most potent scrum halves. Nifty in the pass, tricky in the loose and handy with the drop goal, he has a versatile repertoire - unfortunately he missed eight out of ten conversion attempts at the Blunderdome last week. Tut. Word is, though, that he's doubtful for tonight. Which is good news for us.

At nine is ex-Hornet Anthony 'ruby' Murray - know how dangerous he is scuttling from acting half back - and in young centre Ade Gardner they've unearthed a player with an eye for the tryline - he notched a hat-trick last week.

Hornets will be looking to continue where they left off on Sunday. Without information to hand, we'd guess that Darren Robinson will swap places with Warren Ayres - having Robbo back in the side turns us into a more ruthless killing machine - and maybe Stevo could be in line for a recall if his dodgy knee's had a good week off. New signing Matt Knowles could also come into contention, giving Martin Hall more options off the bench.

Elsewhere, we imagine that Hally will change as little as possible. What he will be looking to do is instill the same level of intensity that we showed as we scraped Leigh off our boot on Sunday. If we keep our heads on the job for a full 80, Barrow shouldn't be able to live with us. But it's games like these that really are potential banana skins. 100% commitment and 100% concentration should see us home and wrap up a very impressive home programme.

Come and see Hornets off in style. It'll be another good night.
