What the press said 28/05/2001 In the News

Rochdale Hornets started a run of four home games with a convincing 32-9 success against Swinton Lions.

Things looked promising for Rochdale as Danny Wood pounced on Latham Tawhai's kick through after five minutes to touch down. Wood added the extra points.

The game lapsed into an untidy spectacle as both sides were guilty of unforced errors.

The visitors came back into the game in the 29th minute when pressure close to the Hornets' line saw Dale Holdstock forcing his way over from acting half-back.

This stung Hornets into action and their reply was a stunning move involving Sean Cooper, Paul Owen and Matt Calland who held off four defenders to score.

After the break, Rochdale came out with all guns blazing.

Tawhai skipped through on the left, moved the ball to man of the match Owen, and he linked with Danny Sculthorpe.

The big prop's one-handed pass gave Cooper a clear run to the line.

Hornets continued to press and, despite desperate defence from Swinton, they confirmed their superiority with tries from Steve Gartland and Joe Berry.
