Gateshead Preview
Bobbie Goulding wants his Rochdale side to kick on from their 38-36 win over Dewsbury in the Northern Rail Cup.Hornets return to The Co-operative National League Two action by hosting unbeaten Gateshead on Sunday.
Goulding said: “That result against Dewsbury gives us a bit of momentum. Once you get on a roll it’s hard to stop a team, and it’s the same if you’re going the other way – it’s hard to get a win when you need one. “But we’re just going to take every game as it comes. We’re only focussing on what we’ve got in store, which is Gateshead.
“It’s no good harping on about the previous game. There’s got to be a time where you say that chapter’s finished.
“There’s a hell of a long season to go and there’s going to be some very tough games.”
Dave Best (shoulder and shins) is Goulding’s only injury concern. Loan pair Carl Hughes and Jon Hill could both feature while Paul Alcock is also back in contention.
Thunder coach Dave Woods is likely to be without Tabua Cakacaka.
Woods watched his side lose 31-26 against Doncaster last week and reckons a bit more self-belief will strengthen his squad.
He said: “It’s just a matter of believing in ourselves. We had a poor year last season and the situation we’ve traditionally been in, where no one expects us to win… the boys have just got to realise they can play footy to a very good standard.”
