A former managing director at Motorama, he was instrumental in dealing with the stadium company over the naming of the Motorama Lounge.

He has a wealth of experience in running businesses and boasts a sound knowledge of commercial and marketing perspectives and what’s more, he’s a Rochdale lad with a passion for the game.

“My father used to take me to Hornets as a youngster and I followed the team home and away when I could,” he said. “I think the makings are there for us to go forward as a club. It’s a struggle at times for part-time teams like ourselves, but we have a good coach and a good team of people in place.”

One of Mr Whitehead’s first tasks will be to look at the Saturday Yankee draw and explore ways in which it could be expanded. His remit will also include the development of long-term partnerships with local businesses and community bodies.

“It would be great to get a few more people through the turnstiles but we will look to develop new sponsorships and partnerships and ensure we are on a sound financial footing. Of course we’d love to get that Super League franchise eventually, and when I look at the stadium we have compared with some of those in the top flight, ours is superior.”
