Oldham review 68:26
After 15 minutes, Hornets fans were rubbing their eyes in disbelief. A
procession of pedantic penalties had swept Oldham the length of the field
twice and Hornets found themselves 14-nil down. Not the best of starts.
But Hornets composed themselves, regathered the troops and hit the gas -
running in seven unsanswered tries before half time. Pick of these was
Chris Campbell's route-one return of an Oldham drop out - running straight
through Johnson and Dodd on the way.
If Lee Birdseye's kicking muse hadn't deserted him (he missed five straight
attempts), the half-time scoreline would have been somewhat more impressive
than 30-14.
The second half saw the introduction of Radney Bowker and Phil Cantillon
who, between them, bamboozled and busied Oldham backwards time and again.
Pick of the second half's six tries both came from prestidigital work from
Bowker - slotting Gorski and Cunliffe through non-existant gaps only for
them to reappear behind a flummoxed defence to plant the ball in the
in-goal.
OIdham rallied briefly with two tries - but offered little in the way of
resistance to a rampant Hornets.
Hornets have now notched up 250 points in our last 240 minutes of Rugby
League and, as the Oldham supporters streamed for the exits, Hornets fans
celebrated one of - if not the - biggest wins against the old enemy.
