Sunday's Coming!!
OK - here’s a pretty simple Rugby League equation. Hornets are on 13 points; Halifax are on 10 points. After Sunday’s game there will be two games - and a possible four points - left. Win on Sunday, Halifax can’t catch us and we’re safe in National League 1.
That’s the magnitude of this week’s game. The ultimate goal of this topsy-turvey, fantastic, roller-coaster of a season gets boiled down to 80 minutes this Sunday.
Coming on the back of a shock win over self-destructing Leigh, Halifax will be desperate to find a hand-hold to pull them out of the relegation mire. With James Bunyan, Pat Weisner, Anthony Farrell. Jamie Bloem and the itchy-footed Phil Cantillon in the side, they do have a sprinkling of half decent talent - but somewhere along the line this season, the blue touchpaper has failed to spark into life.
Conversely, Bobbie Goulding’s Rochdale Hornets have gone off like a rocket just at the right time. Playing with confidence, passion and belief, Hornets are one game away from a quite remarkable miracle.
The spirit in the side is there for everyone to see - and this side does look capable of winning when it has to. And, god knows, Sunday brings such an occasion. A win on sunday will herald a celebration rarely seen at Hornets - a triumph of determination, hard work and sheer guts over seemingly impossible adversity.
This is the game you have to be at. You have no excuse for not being in your seat at 2.59 on Sunday afternoon.
The support in recent weeks has been tremendous and if you were going to sing yourself hoarse at any game this season, this is the week to do it.
Rochdale Hornets needs 110% from everyone involved on Sunday. So get to Spotland early, wear your colours with pride and let’s get behind this side that so richly deserves it.
