DEWSBURY RAMS v ROCHDALE HORNETS
COACH Andy Fisher is poised to make wholesale changes to his Rams side for the arrival of Rochdale on Sunday.
Seven of the players who didn't feature in the Arriva Trains quarter-final defeat at Whitehaven have been passed fit to play, allowing Fisher to strengthen his chances of increasing his National One league status.
"It's a bonus to have all seven back, especially against a top side like Rochdale,'' said Fisher.
Nathan Batty, Michael Wainwright, Adam Thaler, Jimmy Elston, Billy Kershaw, Chris Redfearn and Richard Slater, will all bolster Dewsbury's chances of victory.
Rochdale, without a game for three weeks, will run a check on prop Gareth Price, while prop Matt Long is set to be added to coach Martin Hall's plans.
But flying winger Casey Mayberry remains Hornets' main injury problem. He is need of a specialist's report before a decision can be made about his fitness, according to Hall.
"We are not sure yet what is causing the problem at the back of his knee and until that is diagnosed we can't get Casey the treatment he obviously needs,'' said Hall, who is concerned that his players will be ring-rusty from the lay-off.
DONCASTER DRAGONS v SALFORD CITY REDS
THE Dragons, buoyed by their big win over Oldham, entertain Salford City Reds in the knowledge that they have rugged forward Maea David, winger Jason Lee and scrum-half Martin Moxon returning from injury.
Coach St John Ells is also prepared to make other changes too if utility player Chris Ross fails a fitness test.
"We are looking forward to the game against Salford because they are classed as a top side and we want to beat the top sides,'' said Ellis, who is confident that the Dragons will achieve that goal.
The Reds have new 21 year old signing Mick Berne from South Sydney in the squad, but coach Karl Harrison is unsure if he will play.
"He has trained with us this week and I just may give him a shout, but it all depends on how those played injured in the game at Barrow last week respond to treatment,'' said Harrison, who will run checks on prop Neil Baynes, Paul Highton, Simon Baldwin, Alan Hunte and Andy Kirk.
"I'm hoping that at least two of the five will play, but I just can't be sure at this stage,'' said Harrison, who was also without key halfback Gavin Clinch this week after he was laid low with food poisoning.
FEATHERSTONE ROVERS v HULL KR
Featherstone hope to get back on track against Hull KR, but it could depend on the fitness of dynamic hooker Richard Chapman.
He is coach Andy Kelly's main doubt, although Kelly is still concerned about the problems that have beset halfback Richard Agar.
"Richard has started training again, but I don't think he will be considered ready for action this week,'' said Kelly, who is poised to leave ex-Rochdale and Dewsbury player Brendan O'Meara with the problem stand-off spot.
Having beaten championship favourites Salford, only to lose twice to Leigh, all in the space of three weeks, Featherstone need to stabilise their position in the table and a win over Hull KR will be just the tonic they need.
The Robins, however, are poised to give their new signing , Papua New Guinea international Maikale Aizue, a place on the bench subject to his registration being cleared by the RFL.
But coach Steve Linnane will be without young hooker Paul Pickering, while halfback Paul Parker could return from injury.
"We sit at one apiece so far this season in terms of results, so this will definitely be a key game for us,'' was Linnane's assessment.
OLDHAM v LEIGH CENTURIONS
NEW on-loan signing Dan Potter will make his bow for Oldham against National One League leaders Leigh.
Potter, the ex-Dewsbury forward, is on a month's loan from Super League side Widnes Vikings and Oldham coach Steve Molloy has every intention of using his experience to good effect.
"We need some new life breathing into the side, because injuries have hit us hard this season,'' said Molloy, who could also have ex-Barrow forward Martin McLoughlin and Darren Shaw available again after long lay-offs.
Busy hooker Keith Brennan is set to return, but Ryan Stazicker and Iain Marsh will have to wait another week before their injuries clear up.
Leigh could spring a surprise with the return of ace scorer Neil Turley, provided he passes a late fitness tests.
Coach Paul Terzis watched Turley train this week and is close to naming him in the squad, but hooker Paul Rowley has less than a 50-50 chance of making the line-up with a damaged shoulder.
Meanwhile, ex-Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves winger Leroy Rivett is poised to sign a 12-month contract with the Centurions, who are also casting their net as far as Australia for a possible addition to their squad, according to Terzis.
WHITEHAVEN v BATLEY BULLDOGS
RECENT hooker signing Carl Sice has been sidelined for at least four weeks with an ankle injury and misses Whitehaven's home game against Batley.
Coach Steve McCormack has plenty of cover for that position and has no worries about filling in the gap, but forward Gary Purdham and Chris McKinney may need late checks before they are declared fit.
With Tony Cunningham back from suspension, he will plug one of the possible gaps, while ex-Barrow forward Mike Whitehead and winger Mark Wallace standby for possible call-ups.
Batley welcome the return of Steve Beard from his on-loan spell with Hunslet, but Craig Wingard, Steve Hill and Craig Booth are doubtful of making the trip to Cumbria.
"One or two of the players picked up knocks from the win at Hull KR, but nothing serious,'' said coach Paul Storey, who could add Simon Lewis to his plans.
NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO
BARROW RAIDERS v YORK CITY KNIGHTS
BUSTLING prop Tau Liku gave coach Barrow Cameron Bell a welcome boost by declaring himself fit to face York.
"Tau is a key player in our squad system and I'm glad he is back this week,'' said Bell who is forced to continue with academy players Barry Pugh and Adam Pate in his line-up.
"I would like to give the young lads a rest, but we have far too many injuries to do that just yet,'' said Bell, who has Aussie Dave Clark and winger Shane Irabor as two of his main worries.
York could have ex-Hull forward Lee Jackson back from injury as the replacement for ex-Rochdale hooker Darren Robinson, who has joined Sheffield Eagles.
"Lee has trained well for the past couple of weeks and I think he is ready to return,'' said York player-coach Paul Broadbent, who is desperate to get some more league points under his belt.
All that York have to show for their efforts so far is a draw with newcomers London Skolars and that, according to Broadbent is well short of what they are aiming for.
CHORLEY LYNX V GATESHEAD THUNDER
EXPERIENCED prop Dave Whittle has been ruled out of coach Darren Abram's plans following his two-match suspension.
Whittle will therefore miss the home game against Gateshead Thunder, while centre Mike Redfearn is the subject of a fitness test after injuring his knee in training.
But Abram, always on the search for new players, could have ex-Halifax, Leigh and Swinton scrum half Craig Dean on the bench after he joined the club on a month's trial.
"Darren is always after experienced players and Craig fits the bill,'' said club official Dennis Ramsdale.
Chorley will also have recent signings Chris Newall and Jamie Stenhouse paraded in the squad for the first home appearance.
Gateshead will be minus hooker Craig Firth, who has gone to Australia for a three-month stay, while Aussie hooker Scott McDougall could well make his swan song for the club after agreeing to join Halifax on loan.
"I just hope that Halifax allow Scott to play for us at Chorley, We did try to sign young Wayne Wray from Castleford, but he has elected to go to Hunslet instead'' said coach Paul Fletcher, who will run a fitness check on David Bates' knee injury.
"We seem to be walking on eggshells all the time, for fear of anything new happening,'' said Fletcher, who should have Otley rugby union centre Adam Thonton ready for action after he joined the club this week.
HUNSLET HAWKS v SHEFFIELD EAGLES
THE Hawks will delay their selection until the last minute in the hope that Australian halfback Steve Doherty is fit to face Sheffield.
Coach Roy Sampson is still without Andy Bastow and Gareth Naylor, but with ex-Eagles players Wayne Freeman and Andy Brent in his plans and the Ibbetson brothers Craig and Sean playing well, Sampson can muster a side good enough to claim their fourth league win of the season.
The Eagles have Guy Adams returning from injury, while ex-Barrow prop Damien Whitter is close to fitness.
Coach Mark Aston, delighted with his new signing Tom O'Reilly who is set to join the club next week, is waiting on the fitness of hooker Gareth Stanley. Former Rochdale No 9 Darren Robinson, released by York, could step into the breach at hooker if Stanley is ruled out.
WORKINGTON TOWN v KEIGHLEY COUGARS
NEWLY entrenched coach Billy McGinty has his work cut out to get a result against National League Two leaders Keighley from his first game in control.
The ex-Great Britain and Wigan forward, who also had a spell with Warrington, took charge this week after he was appointed successor to Paul Penrice.
Club director Dave Smith said: "We are delighted that Billy has agreed to take over. His experience is crucial to our plans and he knows that,'' said Smith.
With centre Karl Long suspended for three games for a head-butting offence, it leaves McGinty with a hole to fill. Jamie Beaumont could drop back from the pack to cover, but with Anthony Murray and Brett Smith declaring their fitness, it gives the new Workington boss some leeway to change things round even further.
And with new 22-year-old prop signing Gareth Dean from Wigan Academy on board, Town have started to strengthen already.
Keighley have Ricky Halliwell (knee) and Max Tomlinson (hamstring) both doubtful for the trip, but Mike Durham's return from his on-loan spell with Swinton Lions eases the pressure slightly for coach Gary Moorby.
"I have never yet had any favours from trips into Cumbria and I don't expect any this Sunday. We will have to work extremely hard to keep our record intact,'' warned Moorby.
