NATIONAL League One club Rochdale Hornets are set to make a major announcement after being threatened with legal action by members of the Spotland stadium company board of directors.

Hornets have been criticised in their local newspaper, the Rochdale Observer, over claims that they have not paid rent at Spotland - in which they are equal partners with Rochdale FC - for ten months.

"Legal action has been discussed by the stadium company board," said Rochdale AFC financial director Graham Morris.

But Hornets are set to respond to the claims, and raise other issues surrounding the stadium, in the "very near future" according to Chairman Ray Taylor.

Taylor will not expand further until talks have been held with the football club, Stadium Company and local authority. But Hornets have issued a statement.

"We are surprised and disappointed that, yet again, stadium company business is being discussed in the press by our partners in the Stadium Company, and we have no intention of doing the same," the statement reads.

"We accept that there are problems at the moment, and we can say that a meeting took place with the Chairman of the stadium company less than two weeks ago, and both he and the football club are working hard to find
a way forward.

"With the present structure of the game below Super League, we are playing in a competition that receives very little funding, and no TV monies at all, but we will continue to fight for a fairer distribution of the game's income and things may not always be as difficult as they are at the moment.

"We will continue to explore all avenues, and then we will sit down with our partners in the Stadium Company as soon as possible to the various options."
