YORK City Knights are set to bolster their pack with the signature of try-scoring ace Darren Robinson.

The 23-year-old utility forward joins York from Rochdale Hornets for whom he notched 37 tries in 61 appearances.

He began his professional career at Oldham Roughyeds, scoring two tries in one start, plus six substitute appearances in the 1998 season, before moving in 1999 to their near-neighbours.

Although not a regular last season, that was in part due to a falling out with the coaching staff at the Hornets, and a major disagreement with the club before the start of this season prompted his move away from Spotland.

Knights chief executive Steve Ferres told the Evening Press: "He gets over the whitewash and knows where the line is so will be a very good acquisition. He will be available for selection for Sunday's (Arriva Trains Cup) match at Featherstone."
