Dig deep - and we can all win!
Together Hornets fans can help fund future success.
With Leigh having announced that they are going full-time between
now and the end of the season and Huddersfield already geared up for winning
the playoffs, we were talking at the game yesterday about how Hornets
fans can play a part in keeping us up there with the pacesetters in the
NFP - this and every season!
We were talking about the possibility of setting up some sort
of supporters' contribution system whereby fans pay £100 a year into
a central fund that the club can use to sign, pay and keep decent players.
Several clubs already have 'squadbuilder' schemes and this could be something
similar.
Basically, you'd pay your £100 to become a member of the scheme. We envisage
a bank account administered by an elected member plus one club director
with the transfer of funds payable on both signatures - this would ensure
that the contributing supporters would have a level of say in how the money
was spent.
In a perfect world we'd have 1000 fans paying £100 and we'd have
the cash-richest club in the league. All we can do is try and get as many
as possible. I'm prepared to discuss the possibility of some sort
of reciprocal deal with the club so that members get a tangible recognition
of their contribution (a weekly draw for a tracksuit? A seat in the 'home
block' that's yours for the season? Your ideas welcome!). We'd also set
up an e-mail newsletter to keep members informed of what's going on.
If Hornets are to remain serious challengers this, next and every season,
I reckon we can all make a major contribution to the future of our club
by giving this a go.
Obviously, this is at a pretty early 'feeling-out' stage, but if you
think it's a good idea, want to get behind it or have £100 that you're
desperate to pump into the club, you can e-mail me at stringer_jim@hotmail.com,
post a message on the message board or collar me at Whitehaven next week.
It's less than £2 a week - let's do it!!
Onward Hornets Onward.
