Hornets in row over food bill reports Wednesday's Rochdale Observer.Bills totalling more than £1,000 have started a war of words between Rochdale Hornets and a catering firm.
Belvec Ltd took out a winding up order against Hornets on 23 May. The Halifax company claimed the rugby league club hadn't paid for food and drink at games and events dating back to 20 February.
But Hornets say the money owed was paid the day after the order was taken out, but it is in dispute with the company over part of the sum - about £300.
Margaret Firth, of Belvec said: "We started providing catering at Hornets' matches at the end of November. We had an unwritten agreement with general manager, Liam O'Reilly, that we would provide it up to the end of the season in September.
"This is a lot of money to a small company like us. We decided to take out the winding up order after Hornets started employing another caterer."
Hornets' chief executive Paul Reynolds said: "They were finished as caterers because we didn't believe their service was of a high enough standard. We like to support local firms and our catering is now supplied by Lords of Whitworth. A Halifax company should never have been employed in the first place and we're investigating why that happened."
Companies subjected to winding up orders have 21 days to come to an agreement with the aggrieved party before the case goes to court
