Hornets back junior town-team
trials in the search for local talent
This Saturday sees Hornets support the
Rochdale Service Area trials for the Town Teams at Under-12 to under-15 age
groups.
The Service Area trials will take place
this weekend at Heywood Sports Centre, and Carl Richards - the recently
appointed Rugby League Co-ordinator for Rochdale is - calling for all juniors
with sporting ability and an interest in Rugby League to turn up and try
out for the prestigious team.
Youngsters from all sporting backgrounds
are invited to take part - and a positive attitude is the main qualifying
criteria. Many youngsters play Rugby League in Rochdale schools - and
even the dreaded *nion game - but have no route to carry on afterwards.
The Service Area programme is designed to ensure that youngsters with ability
and potential don’t get lost to the game.
In addition the Hornets are set to launch
a Rugby League Scholarship Programme offering youngsters the very best
coaching and nurturing in the sport.
Hornets General Manager Liam O’Reilly said,
"Under the direction of Carl Richards we are pulling together the very
best in coaching talent including our Head Coach Martin Hall and Club Captain
Matt Calland. The Scholarship programme will bring together
the most elite players at under-12 to under-16 to train and develop in a professional
environment. The Service Area Squads will form the nucleus of the
Scholarship programme, and it's a genuine first step on the ladder to
becoming a professional player. This really is a great opportunity!"
Trials take place on the Heywood Sports
Centre Rugby Pitches at 9.30am this Saturday. If you fancy your chances,
you’ll need your boots, training wear and something to drink.
