Sunday's coming for Doncaster 22/03/2002 Jim
Sunday's Coming

If you had to pick an opponent against whom you needed to pick your team off its knees following one of the greatest humilations in living memory, it probably wouldn't be St John Ellis' Doncaster.

His team's a lethal blend of craft and physical determination - typified by the way they knuckled down to give Castleford a tough game last week. Indeed, the Dragons' Kiwi loose forward, Martin Moana took the man-of-the-match award in defeat. The ex-Blue Sock(?) has good hands, is strong on attack and in the tackle and has a nifty turn of pace. One to watch for sure.

Similarly, fellow Kiwi Paul Mansson at out half comes with a reputation as one of the NFP's most potent defence-splitters and with rock solid Chris Ross at scrum half, our half backs will need a very big game indeed to combat this threat.

Across the backs, Johnny Woodcock - who always seems to have a useful game against us - is partnered by ex-Loiner Marvin Golden. Anton garcia and Jason Lee make up the other flank pairing.

Whilst not a huge squad, if St John Ellis can put his best 17 on the park Hornets have got trouble. He's always been committed, competitive and combative - and the nature of his team reflects this.

They know what they're good at and they stick to it - big and physical on defence, relentless and persistent on attack, they grind teams back and wait for them to crack. Any semblance of last week's defensive weaknesses will see Hornets pay dearly.

As for Hornets, where do we begin. Hally's got to make big changes after last week, but too many would bend the side completely out of shape. With the A team pack currently bossing the Spring Cup, I'd look there for the steel and resilience we need.

But whatever side takes the field we need a new start. Let's erase last week's disappointment - we've seen plenty down the years and bounced back. The team needs our backing more than ever, our commitment is as important as theirs. Don't let the side down, it's vital that we all pitch in and win this one. We'll see you there.
