The new style Alliance Competition kicked-off recently.
It starts with a round robin Alliance Spring Cup tournament, which is split into three sections. Rochdale Hornets are paired with Oldham, Batley Bulldogs with Dewsbury Rams and Gateshead Thunder with Workington Town.
Each team will play the other team in its section on a home and away basis and the other teams in the league once. The 6 fixtures will be completed by 30 March when the top four will play off (1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd).
The Spring Cup Final will be held at a venue to be confirmed on Saturday 13th April 2002.
The Alliance League proper will commence a week after the Challenge Cup Final towards the end of April. It is hoped that by then other clubs may have opted to join the competition Sheffield Eagles and York Wasps have already indicated that they will probably be interested in playing friendly games during this period and other clubs looking for reserve fixtures will also be accommodated.
