Hornets demolished Chorley 66-10The press had this to say : Rochdale Hornets boosted their hopes of a play off place by running in 13 tries at Victory Park to bounce back from last week's defeat at Widnes. Fullback Paul Owen and forward substitute Joe Berry led the way with hattricks while standoff Danny Wood scored one try and kicked seven goals for an 18 point haul. After taking the lead through Owen in the tenth minute, Hornets steadily built up a huge score as David Larder and Berry followed him over the try-line. But it was in a 12-minute spell either side of the interval, when Hornets ran in 30 points that the game really ran away from struggling Chorley. Steve Gartland, Owen and Larder scored late in the first half and Gartland and Berry added further tries early in the second half with Chorley's only reply coming to Ian Talbot. Owen cut through for his third try before Berry also completed his hattrick by bringing up the half century just before the hour mark. Though Chorley winger Paul Wilcock holsted a second try for the home side, Hornets reaffirmed their vast superiority by finishing with a flourish as Wood, Latham Tawhai and Wayne McHugh all went in for further tries Stand-off Danny Wood helped himself to 18 points, while Hornets' full-back Paul Owen and substitute Joe Berry both scored hat-tricks. | |||
