Sunday's coming - by Jim

This Sunday sees Hornets travel to Chorley. With former Wigan stalwarts Dennis Ramsdale and Peter Farrell (dad of Gt Britain Captain Andy and Oldham plodder Phil) on the board and coached by former Wigan supremo Graeme West, they have enough experience off the field to help the Lynx lose their now common 'Weakest' appendage.

Now permanently settled in Chorley as part of the Chorley Sporting Club set up, the Lynx have the foundation on which to build for the future. Indeed, it is their intention to build the Lynx into a club where young players get a chance to step up into the pro game and where older pros have the chance to put something back into the game. Youth and experience - the mix that everyone says is a successful one. But so far success has been a bit thin on the ground.

They currently sit in a lofty third bottom league position, having recently broken a 36 match with a convincing 15-try demolition of hapless York. It was a big weekend for the club. Whilst Stuart Fisher was busy breaking Lynx club records with five tries and nine goals, old boy Phil Jones was wowing Sky viewers with a real powewhouse performance at Castleford - advertising to the world that Chorley has the potential to produce real quality players.

In the current Chorley squad are ex-hornets Neil Alexander, Lee Prest and Phil Harrison. Indeed, Alexander and Harrison had great games when I saw Lynx go down at home to Whitehaven last month. They were only ten points adrift of the Cumbrian playoff pretenders at half time and really only lost the game in a dodgy spell early in the second half when 'haven eased themselves into an unassailable lead.

Hornets will probably go into this game with a slightly reshuffled pack - Stevo stepping up to hooker where he played quite superbly against Widnes. Martin Hall may also take the opportunity to rest one or two players carrying niggly injuries like Marlon Billy and Brendan O'Meara. Whatever the line-up, Hornets need a bit of a confidence boost after last week's disappointment at Widnes - and a big score could go some way to putting us back on track.

And if you're heading up to the erroneously named Victory Park on Sunday, I suggest you delay your lunch - Chorley's famous tea bar makes quite possibly the largest chip butties in the Rugby League. See you there.
